FAQ
Why Brian Head? We get 400 inches of the white stuff each year, so all winter sports are quite popular! The snow season runs from Thanksgiving - Easter, and there was still good snow mobile conditions in mid-April this year! From late June through mid October the mountain biking is world class, and you don't want to miss the myriad colors come autumn!
Alpine Condo Location? From Highway 143, turn up Bear Flat Rd (next to Brian Head Town Hall), then your 1st right onto Alpine Court. 37N 41' 48.699" 112W 50' 31.6752"
Approx. Elev: 9855 ft
Distance from Vegas, SLC, L.A.? Brian Head is 3 hours from Las Vegas, 3 hours from Salt Lake City, 7 hours from L.A. (caveat: depends on traffic!!), 1.5 hours from St. George, and 35 mins from Cedar City.
How far from slopes? We are located in the trees just North of the Giant Steps slopes. You can walk the Brian Head Town Trail to the edge of the Desbah slope, drive 1 whole minute to the Giant Steps Lodge parking lot (2 minutes to the Navajo Lodge), or catch the free shuttle at the end of the driveway!
How many friends can I bring? We have 1118 square feet plus balcony, parking and gear locker. With 2 full bathrooms, a king, queen and futon, our retreat comfortably sleeps 6. If you have an additional couple (or kids) that don't mind sleeping on our queen air mattress, there is room!
Amenities? Our condo is fully furnished! This is our second home, so we have everything you will need for a stay of any length. All linens, towels, and kitchen dishes & utensils are included. Hairdryer? Check. Crock pot/blender/coffee maker/toaster? Check. Humidifier? (It gets dry up here!) Check. Laundry? Yes, with 4+ night rentals. If you need something special or want to make sure something is included, just ask! :-)
New for 2010! We installed a large flat screen TV with surround sound DVD player. The TV/DVD that was in the living room is now in the Master Bedroom.
Firewood? There is a rank of wood on the balcony, a large box of wood and kindling in the hall closet, and the fireplace is ready to light!
Parking & storage? We have 1 parking space in the underground parking garage, with a spare space that is 1st come 1st served. There is a ski/board locker in a dry, heated room just inside the garage so you don't need to lug your wet gear into the condo.
Distance from Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Nat'l Parks and Gooseberry Mesa? All listed National Parks are a day trip from Brian Head. Remember, Utah is in the mountain time zone, so we are an hour ahead of Vegas and L.A.
Is Fido or Patches allowed? Sorry, unfortunately not. Because this is our 2nd home and we may have guests with pet allergies, we can't allow any furried friends.
Do I need 4x4 to get there? The condo is only 1/4 mile from state maintained Hwy 143, then an easy drive into the underground parking garage. The town of Brian Head maintains Bear Flat Rd, and we have a private plowing company that keeps the driveway clean.
Are you green? Very much so! We provide 1 comingled recycling container, and we separate our paper, metal, plastic and glass. We have high pressure "Incredible Showerheads" on both showers (they are incredible) and all faucets have aerators. As the incandescent light bulbs burn out we replace them with CFL's, and as they burn out we return them to Home Depot for recycling. Lots of windows + abundant sun means you don't need as many lights on. Lastly, with morning sun on the East side of the building, it gets and stays toasty warm all day with less heater/fireplace usage!
Can I smoke? Only if you can fit in the fireplace! Sorry, smoking is not allowed in the condo.
Will I get cellular service in Brian Head? Verizon has great service all over BH; I use my Verizon USB "Air card" for Internet access while I'm there. Briar has a T-Mobile blackberry that works well, but I'm told that AT&T service is practically nonexistant. Regardless of your carrier, you will lose all service on Rt 143 between Parowan and BH. That is a dead zone for all providers.
OK this sounds like a great retreat! How do I reserve my stay, and how much $ ?
